Location: The CADSWES office at 1777 Exposition Dr., Suite 113, Boulder, CO 80301

Introduction to Simulation Modeling is a course for first-time or novice users of RiverWare. It has been taught for over 18 years by the CADSWES engineers and researchers who develop RiverWare software, and has received enthusiastic reviews (evaluation statistics are available upon request).

During this training you will be provided with a Windows computer and learn to build and run simulation models using many of RiverWare's special modeling features and analysis utilities. The course includes both lectures and self-guided tutorials. The detailed training manual will serve as a valuable reference for future use of RiverWare. After you have taken the course, the training models (including those you developed through the tutorials) will be available to you, along with a 2-month software license. Academic / Research discounts are available. Contact us to see if you qualify.

Special meetings and sessions can be arranged to answer your modeling questions or discuss your particular modeling needs. Please let us know in advance if you would like to schedule a special session to discuss the application of RiverWare to a particular basin.

Rulebased Simulation Modeling in RiverWare

The class was last held March 8 - 10, 2017. Please check back for the next class.

Rulebased Simulation Modeling is a course for users who have already completed the Introduction to Simulation Modeling course and wish to begin learning rulebased simulation. It has been taught for over 18 years by the CADSWES engineers and researchers who develop RiverWare software. This course teaches the user how to incorporate policy as data into their RiverWare models. In this training, you will learn to construct rules and rulesets, and will gain experience in converting written policy into rules, implementing rulesets, testing, and debugging models. The course includes both lectures and self-guided tutorials as well as interactive group projects.

The detailed training manual will serve as a valuable reference for future use in writing rules in RiverWare. A considerable amount of time is spent on the solution methodologies used in rulebased simulation, which build heavily upon the solution methodologies taught in the Introduction to Simulation Modeling class. Academic / Research discounts are available. Contact us to see if you qualify.

Special meetings and sessions can be arranged to answer your modeling questions or discuss your particular modeling needs. Please let us know in advance if you would like to schedule a special session to discuss the application of RiverWare to a particular basin.

RiverWare Overview

Please check back for the next class or add your email to the announcement list

Location: The CADSWES office at 1777 Exposition Dr., Suite 113, Boulder, CO 80301

RiverWare Overview is an introduction to RiverWare's most commonly used solution modules and to many of its utilities, output features and diagnostics. You will learn how to build a model of the rivers, reservoirs, hydro plants, and other features of your basin, and to simulate the physical processes by selecting from a large number of alternative methods to tailor the simulation to your modeling needs. An introduction to the rulebased simulation solver and RiverWare's Policy Language and editor will be followed by an engaging group exercise in converting a basin's operating policy into a ruleset. We will demonstrate how to run the model, use diagnostics and run analysis tools, and view the results through plots, reports and special policy analysis tools. You will configure and build a system control table, a spreadsheet-like view of the data that provides easy access to editing and running the model. We will demonstrate the Data Management Interface to automatically import and export data, and the Multiple Run Manager that automates the simulation of ensembles and produces probabilistic results. This course is an abbreviated version of two 3-day in-depth modeling courses; it meets the needs of people wishing to become familiar with RiverWare's capabilities at a fairly technical level. After you have taken the course, the training models (including those you developed through the tutorials) will be available to you, along with a 2 month software license. Academic / Research discounts are available. Contact us to see if you qualify.
